Biography

Cronier, Walter Thomas, known to family and friends as Cotton, a life-long native of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on March 03, 2010, after an extended illness. He was born on Nov. 25, 1926, the 14th child of Benjamin W. Cronier, Sr. and Flora Belle Nix Cronier, and was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 50 years, Gwendolyn Reese Cronier, and 15 of his siblings.
Mr. Cronier served in WWII as a member of the US Navy. After returning home, he attended Huntingdon College and had a long career working for the State of Alabama as the Head of the Corporate Inheritance Special Audits in the Income Tax Division.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Steve Kaylor, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Anna and Andrew Goldman, all of Montgomery ; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Stephen (Biff) and Stacey Kaylor of Homewood, AL ; sister and brother-in-law, Loraine and Jack Whitaker of Matthews, NC ; brother-in-law, Henry Cobb of Montgomery, AL ; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Nelson and Betty Reese of Montgomery, AL, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cronier was a special blessing to his family and friends, always ready with a warm smile and kind manner. He was the epitome of the southern gentleman. He attended the First United Methodist Church for most of his life and was a good Christian in the best sense of the word. He looked after his family and was always ready to lend someone a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
The pallbearers will be Andrew Goldman, Stephen Kaylor, Jr., John Cronier, Thomas Rowe, Jerry Cronier, David Cobb, Andy Wise, and Owen Reese.
Services are being handled by Southern Memorial Funeral Home. Family will receive visitors on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The Graveside Service will be at 12:00pm on Saturday, March 6, 2010 in Greenwood Cemetery with Dr. Karl Stegall officiating. A special thanks to Vista Hospice and his nurses, Mary, Shannon, John and Barbara. Also, a special thanks to Mae Germany, Cornelious Faulk, and Tom Flemming for years of care and service.
